On the Heels of Yesterday.....
Fair Oaks Park and Recreation District is sponsoring several concerts in the park this summer. Tonight was the USAF Band Golden West from Travis AFB.
Fresh off playing for the nation at the interment of Ronald Reagan at the Reagan Library 2 weeks ago, the USAF Band Golden West showed their stuff in a 2-part concert. The first half concentrating on big-band era tunes, with the second half a patriotic salute to the good ol' USA. The band is tight, sharp, and as good as any 60-piece band I've ever heard. They were terrific!
The crowd was mostly older folks, but that was OK. It was quite festive and I really enjoyed the nearly 2-hour show. I highly recommend taking in a few of the upcoming shows. Come early and grab a spot in the shade, though. The shows start at 7pm, and the sun doesn't really get behind the trees and the stage until about 7:45, leaving a lot of the area in the sun.

Liberal Libel
Ok. Everyone that knows pretty well knows I'm an unabashed political conservative. I'm a registered Republican, and most always vote for Republican candidates and against any bond measures the involve tax increases. I'm a born-again, evangelical-fundamental Christian who strongly believes God has blessed our USA in this present age to be a light to the world for freedom and faith.
I strongly believe that the very reason this nation is prosperous, powerful, and free is because we were founded on principles clearly founded in the Bible (NOT "Judeo-Christian ethics" as it is popular and PC to say, but downright Biblical, New testament principles). Not that our government is a Christian government, nor is the nation a Christian nation, but it IS a nation founded on those principals. Anyone who states otherwise, again as it popular and PC to state, is an outright liar.
What the founders agreed on was: no government will tell the people WHAT to believe when it comes to religious though. But the Constitution does NOT say that elected officials can't be Christian, nor practice their faith in their governance. I am one who has no problem with public servants being spiritual people, and in fact, agree with the first Supreme Court Justice of the United States, John Jay, who said, in a letter in 1797, that "Providence has given to our people the choice of their rulers, and it is the duty, as well as the privilege and interest of our Christian nation to select and prefer Christians for their rulers." To say that our founders weren't really men of Christian faith is an outright lie. In fact, that same Justice went on to say, "It is to be regretted, but so I believe the fact to be, that except the Bible there is not a true history in the world."
I am tired of people re-writing history and trying to make the USA into a secular nation devoid of any reference in modern governance to God or Our Creator. It is clear the founders not only prayed for, but DEPENDED ON divine providence (the will of God) for this nation to survive.
Patick Henry, the revered patriot, said "It cannot be emphasized too strongly or too often that this great nation was founded not by religionists but by Christians, not on religions but on the Gospel of Jesus Christ".
James Madison, 4th President of the US and widely considered the Father of the Constitution, said, "We have staked the whole of all our political institutions upon the capacity of mankind for self-government, upon the capacity of each and all of us to govern ourselves, to control ourselves, to sustain ourselves according to the Ten Commandments of God."
In fact, did you know that as you walk up the steps to the building which houses the U.S. Supreme Court you can see near the top of the building a row of the world's law givers and each one is facing one in the middle who is facing forward with a full frontal view ... it is Moses and he is holding the Ten Commandments!
So, don't tell me that Christianity and the Bible aren't important in our nation. It is our reliance and deep down adherence to Biblical ethics that keeps this nation safe. It's what makes the vast majority of us stop at a stop sign when there is no one around. It's what makes it possible for you to feel relatively safe in your own home. It's what makes it possible for 75-100 deputies on duty at any one time to safely police an population in Sacramento County of nearly 700,000 souls. Because most of us behave, and obey the laws of our land. Why? Because we know, deep in our hearts, it's the right thing to do. We know that, the same way the Founders knew it. It's written on our hearts. It's written there because it's God's law.
So, although I agree that our government has no place telling you, reader, what to think or believe, neither does that government prohibit any belief, and our founders clearly encouraged certain beliefs. I think we would be wise to follow their lead.

No school!
Can't believe the entire weekend came and went so fast!
Saturday night, Cameron and I went with Lisa and her troupe to Crestview Lanes and did a bowling party for her daughter Keilah's 16th birthday. Pizza, cake, beer, and bowling. It was a very nice time had by all, but I didn't get home till after 10pm, and I was beat!
Sunday was father's day, and the girls got me a load of frames so I can print up pictures for around the apartment, and Lisa had helped Cameron with a few things so she could make me a personalized "World's Best Dad" baseball hat for camping. Oh, oh! She also got me a little table-top gas grill so I can bar-b-que!!! Whoo-hoo!! Lindsey, Cameron and I went to the store, grabbed up some big ol' steaks, and cooked up steak and chicken on the grill, out on the patio. Worked like a charm! Perfect gift, Cameron and Lisa... good job!
Today's Monday, and I'm gonna take Camie and Lindsey to see Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban. Then, I think, we're gonna Stargate out and have leftover bar-b-que!
